The incident took place in Bridgeport around 2:45 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12 in the 100 block of Carleton Avenue.

According to Capt. Kevin Gilleran of the Bridgeport Police, officers responded to the area after receiving ShotSpotter notification of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive 21-year-old New Haven County resident identified as Travis Bush of Ansonia, lying face down in the street on Carleton Avenue, Gilleran said.

Bush appeared to be suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Medics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

A short time later, officers found a 30-year-old Bridgeport man, identified as Wilbert Jordan lying in a driveway located on the south side of Carleton Avenue, Gilleran said.

Jordan also appeared to be suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Medics transported the 30-year-old victim to an area hospital where he later died.

Gilleran said the preliminary investigation suggests this was a mutual assault between the two men and is an isolated incident. Two firearms were recovered at the scene.

"The Bridgeport Police Department’s thoughts and prayers continue to go out to both families, Gilleran said.
