Bridgeport Police said there would be an increased police presence at Bridgeport Central High School on Wednesday, Feb. 26, after the threat was made overnight on the popular social media site, said Scott Appleby, director of the Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security/Emergency Communications.

According to Appleby, late Tuesday, Feb. 25, the police department was made aware of the Snapchat threat made against the school.

"We have police presence at the school as a precaution," said Appleby. "We have no information other than the Snapchat post to suggest that an incident may occur today."

An investigation Tuesday evening and early Wednesday did not produce any other information to suggest that the threat was legitimate and targeted in Bridgeport specifically, he added.

The police department is working with school officials to make ensure the safety of the students, Appleby said.

"We will take every precaution to maintain the safety of all students and staff," he added.

Anyone with information pertaining to this threat is asked to contact the Bridgeport Police Tips Line at 203-576-TIPS or notify school administration.
