Because of actions taken by Gov. Malloy and the State Legislature, more kids in Bridgeport and more kids across Connecticut will be prepared to one day attend college and compete for 21st century jobs. Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch
Bridgeport Background: This week, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced the allocation of 1,020 new pre-k seats for 46 cities and towns across Connecticut (click here for more info: http://1.usa.gov/1qaWSjo). Bridgeport, the states largest city, received more new seats than any other city or town, totaling 126. In response, Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch who was a vocal advocate for the early childhood learning legislation that passed in the state legislature this year made the following statement:
As a parent, and mayor of the state's largest city, I've seen firsthand how tough it is for kids who don't have access to high-quality early childhood education. And, research is clear: If kids aren't reading at the level they should be by third grade, they're less likely to graduate. We need to do more for our kids.
Thats why Im thrilled that Gov. Malloy has allocated 126 new Pre-K seats for Bridgeport, enhancing the ability of our kids to access a high-quality early childhood education. Because of actions taken by Gov. Malloy and the State Legislature, more kids in Bridgeport and more kids across Connecticut will be prepared to one day attend college and compete for 21st century jobs.
