FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — State Republicans have offered their solutions to balance Connecticut's finances by the June 30 deadline that would close a $220 million shortfall and restore $140 million in payments to state hospitals, according to the CT Mirror.

House and Senate Republicans suggested furloughing all state workers for two days, reducing legislators’ pay, eliminating positions in the governor's administration and reducing spending in various areas, including education, social services and addiction services. Also under the plan, the state's public colleges and universities would lose about $33 million, said the CT Mirror.

Gov. Dannel Malloy responded by saying, that while he disagreed with some of the plan, he called it an "honest effort" to close the shortfall, CT Mirror said. Malloy challenged legislators from both parties last week to offer ideas after they vowed to vote against his ideas which included laying off state workers, added the CT Mirror.
