For Bridgeport, Ballot Goes Beyond Just Clinton Vs. Trump

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Much of the political spotlight is focused on the heated ballot for the presidency between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump.

But voters in Bridgeport are also set to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 8, in a number of races that are much closer to home.

Voters will be casting ballots in races for the U.S. Senate and House:

  • U.S. Senate: Democrat incumbent Richard Blumenthal of Greenwich vs. Republican challenger Dan Carter of Bethel vs. Libertarian challenger Richard Lion of Manchester vs. Green Party challenger Jeffery Russell of Glastonbury 
  • 4th District U.S. House: Republican challenger John Shaban of Redding vs. Democrat incumbent Jim Himes of Greenwich

There are also races for each of Bridgeport's two State Senate seats (residents vote only in their district):

  • State Senate District 22: Democrat incumbent Marilyn V. Moore vs. Republican challenger Elaine Hammers
  • State Senate District 23: Democrat incumbent Ed Gomes vs. Republican challenger Mike Garrett

For the State House, there are six different districts in Bridgeport (residents vote only in their district):

  • State House District 124: Democrat incumbent Andre F. Baker, Jr. vs. Republican challenger Jose L. Quiroga
  • State House District 126: Democrat incumbent Charlie Stallworth vs. Republican challenger Anthony Pizighelli
  • State House District 127: Democrat incumbent John F. Hennessy vs. Republican challenger Ruben A. Coriano
  • State House District 128: Democrat incumbent Christopher Rosario vs. Republican challenger Ethan Book
  • State House District 129: Democrat incumbent Steven Stafstrom vs. Republican challenger Peter Perillo
  • State House District 130: Democrat incumbent Ezequiel Santiago vs. Republican challenger Melissa Borres 

The only city election is for Registrar of Voters, where residents will choose one of three candidates: Democrat incumbent Santa Ines Ayala, Republican incumbent Linda A. Grace and Petitioning Candidate Rosa J. Correa.

And for president and vice president, four teams are on the ballot:

  • Democrats Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine;
  • Republicans Donald Trump and Mike Pence
  • Libertarian Party's Gary Johnson and Bill Weld
  • Green Party's Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka
  • Or you can do a write-in candidate.
