BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — As Kyle Navin was officially charged Tuesday morning with murdering his parents, Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin, Connecticut State Police released a 27-page arrest warrant that detailed the crime as well as the strained relationship within the family.

Navin, 27, a resident of Bridgeport and a graduate of Weston High School, was moved from a federal prison in Rhode Island to the custody of the Connecticut State Police in Bridgeport.

During the course of the lengthy investigation, which ended with the discovery of the remains of the Navins in Weston last week, police determined that relationship between Kyle Navin and his father was tempestuous. Jeffrey Navin had a “history of being emotionally and verbally abusive to his son Kyle,” according to the warrant.

The Department of Children and Families had investigated their relationship when Kyle Navin was a teenager, according to the warrant.

Kyle Navin was also in financial trouble. He owed $133,000 to his parents, who purchased his home for him in cash, and was spending an upwards of $300 to $600 a day on heroin as his drug habit escalated, according to the warrant.

In several text messages to his girlfriend, Jennifer Valiante, 31, who was charged with hindering prosecution and conspiracy in connection with the murders, Navin expressed the need to come up with a plan to get money from his parents.

“We need to figure out what the best way to take them down,” he said in a text message to Valiante, according to the warrant. “We got to figure out I’m got to be real smart and do it quick.”

“I really like that idea,” says another message from Navin to Valiante. “That’ll allow (us) to stay in our house pay for a full top line remodel and new garage.”

“And have hundreds of thousands to buy my cummins and you a new car and enjoy life taking vacations, having fun with friends no stress no contact ever again with the bad people,” he continued.

Kyle Navin was arrested at U.S. District Court in Bridgeport shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday and charged with two counts of murder and one count of murder with special circumstances.

His parents, who lived in Easton, were reported missing on Aug. 4. Their remains were discovered in the yard of a home on Norfield Road in Weston on Thursday afternoon and were positively identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner late Friday, state police said.
