BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A 33-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested after an attempted traffic spot led to a police chase on I-95 and through Bridgeport backyards until the suspect was found hiding in the basement of a city home he had broken into, State Police said.

The incident began at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, a Trooper from Troop G – Bridgeport was conducting speed enforcement on I-95 south in Bridgeport when he saw a red Mercury Sable traveling at a high rate of speed near Exit 29, state police said in a statement.

The driver fled on foot over fences and through backyards in the area of Vine Street in Bridgeport, pursued by state police officers.

Bridgeport Police Officers set up a perimeter in the area. A Troop - G K9 unit responded and conducted a track for the suspect.

After tracking the man's last known whereabouts, troopers found that the suspect had forced entry into a house on Vine Street and was hiding in the basement.
