FIve Taken Into Custody After Officer Fires Shots During Narcotics Investigation In Bridgeport

Five men were arrested during a narcotics investigation in which an officer fired his gun after fearing for his life, Bridgeport Police said.

The incident took place around 1:37 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, when officers and detectives assigned to the Narcotics Unit were conducting an investigation in the area of Pembroke Street involving a stolen vehicle, and a man who was in possession of a firearm, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police Department.

During the investigation, officers attempted to take the five men into custody when shots were fired by a narcotics officer after he perceived a threat to his life, Jones said.

 No one was struck by gunfire and all five men were taken into custody. 

A firearm was recovered from one of the suspects after a foot chase, Jones said.

Only minor injuries were reported including an injuring to a detective who was struck by the suspect's vehicle while the occupants attempted to flee the scene. 

The incident remains under investigation; the five unnamed men are being processed.
