New London County resident Michael Gregor, age 41, formerly of New London, who recently moved to East Lyme, was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 23.

According to Capt. Matthew Galante, of the New London Police, Gregor was arrested in connection with an incident that took place on Sunday, Jan. 29, at a home in New London involving a reported domestic dispute.

During the arrest, police found the 10-year-old boy locked in a room with a deadbolt on the door and only plastic on the floor along with a piece of wood, according to an arrest warrant obtained by Eyewitness New 3.

When found by New London Police, the child had several bruises, was severely malnourished, and had hair loss. He also had a swollen finger and was walking with a limp, the warrant said.

The child also told officers that he hadn't showered or changed his clothes in weeks and that he wasn't allowed to eat food unless given to him, the warrant said.

In addition, if he was "bad," the child was locked and tied up in a closet in the room where he was beaten with the piece of wood found in the room or kicked in the back through the door by Gregor, the warrant added.

The incidents had allegedly been happening for months, the warrant said.

Galante said New London officers had the child taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital due to his injuries and malnourishment. The boy was later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital for further treatment.

Gregor was charged with:

  • Strangulation
  • Assault
  • Cruelty to persons
  • Risk of injury to a minor
  • Unlawful restraint
  • Reckless endangerment

He was held on a $750,000 bond.
