BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Bridgeport Police arrested a local woman on charges of possession of stolen firearms and drugs on Monday, Oct. 26, who is a person of interest in a recent shooting.
Shontaizjah Fleming, 23, of Bridgeport, was charged with: possession of carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, theft of a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, and possession of marijuana.
Fleming is also a person of interest in a non-fatal shooting that took place on Sunday, Oct. 25 on Stratford Avenue, police said.
At 2:35 a.m. Oct. 25, a police officer on patrol heard several shots fired on Stratford Avenue near Hollister Avenue, police said. The officer, along with other support officers, found a spent shell casing and established a perimeter, police said.
Officers interviewed several witnesses who reported seeing two groups of people, all wearing black hooded sweatshirts, arguing from opposite sides of Stratford Avenue before the shooting, police said.
Witnesses also provided a description of a vehicle involved, police said. Officers located a vehicle that matched the description on Dover Street near Stewart Street, police said.
Upon arrival on the scene, officers found Fleming inside a black Toyota Scion and reaching into the driver's side area between the seats, police said.
Officers ordered her and three suspects standing outside the vehicle to move to a nearby fence and place their hands on the top rail, police said.
Officers asked whether there was anything in the vehicle. One suspect responded, “No,” and gave the keys to a police officer, as well as permission to search the vehicle, police said. Officers discovered a firearm in plain view inside the driver's side floor of the vehicle.
In addition, a 2001 Buick Century was discovered nearby with blood on the rear passenger side, a broken window, and several bullet holes, police said. Fleming was searched by police officers, who found 29.5 grams of marijuana in her possession, police said.
Bond has been set at $20,000 for Fleming.
After arresting Fleming, officers responded to a call from Bridgeport Hospital, where a 20-year-old male victim -- suffering from two non-life threatening bullet wounds to the right arm -- told them he had been shot by an unknown person while standing in front of the Chicken and Waffle restaurant on Stratford Avenue, police said.
