BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – A 21-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges after he sped through a stop sign, slammed his BMW into a parked car and a utility pole and dropped a gun during a police chase, Bridgeport police said Tuesday.

The incident began Sunday, Nov. 8, when a patrolman saw a 2006 Silver BMW speeding down Chamberlain Street and disobeying a stop sign, police said.

The vehicle, driven by Wade Major, turned left on Summit Street when the patrolman activated his lights and attempted to pull him over, police said.

Major slowed down but did not stop while driving down Summit Street near Chopsey Hill Road, police said.

As he sped down Chopsey Hill Road, Major's car hit a parked Mercedes Benz-E350 and a utility pole, police said.

With significant damage to the BMW, Mercedes Benz and utility pole, Major got of his car and started running, police said.

Officers caught Major on the Park City Magnet School property, police said. When he was apprehended, a firearm hit the ground, police said.

A 9mm firearm, a six-round magazine, and six auto-caliber rounds were secured by officers, police said.

Major was charged with interfering with an officer; carrying pistol/revolver without permit; possession of a weapon on school grounds; and weapons in a vehicle.

Bond has been set at $75,000.

He was also charged with the following motor vehicle infractions: failure to stop at a stop sign; traveling too fast for conditions; reckless driving; and operating without a license.
