BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Mayor Joe Ganim has reportedly laid off about two-dozen city of Bridgeport employees in the past week, a move he called a tax savings but his opponents characterized as politically motivated, the Connecticut Post said.
According to the Post, the layoffs, which will save the city hundreds of thousands of dollars, included:
- Tax Assessor Elaine Carvalho
- Kristin duBay Horton, director of health and social services
- Parks Manager Andy Valeri
- Human Resources boss Jodie Paul-Arndt
- Robert “Bobby” Kennedy, a deputy public facilities director
- Public works staffer John Cottell, who oversaw utilities and energy conservation
- Judy Marella, from the after-school Lighthouse Program
- Kim Rose of the building and anti-blight departments, handling permits and complaints.
And another Bridgeport employee left on his own, according to the Post. David Kooris, the city’s director of economic development, will leave in about a month for a job managing a federally funded project to improve shoreline infrastructure in Bridgeport and elsewhere, the Post said.
