BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The Bridgeport schools are mourning the death of a guidance counselor who was killed in a rollover crash on the Merritt Parkway in Stratford over the weekend, according to the Connecticut Post.

Jordan Soares, 27, was a guidance counselor at Claytor Academy and Columbus School. He is also the son of Dee Soares, principal at Bridgeport Military Academy.

He was also a site coordinator for the city’s afterschool Lighthouse Program, according to the Connecticut Post.

Additional social workers and psychologists were sent to all three schools to offer grief counseling to students and staff, Schools Superintendent Aresta Johnson told the Post.

Soares was a graduate of Central Magnet School, Southern Connecticut State University and the University of Southwest, according to the Connecticut Post.

The fatal crash occurred at 1:30 a.m. Sunday on the southbound side of the Merritt Parkway near Exit 53 when two cars collided and hit the guardrail, state police said.

Soares was a front-seat passenger in his 2103 Infinity JX35 sports utility vehicle, which rolled down an embankment, ejecting Soares, the driver and a backseat passenger, state police said.

The 18-year-old driver and the 20-year-old passenger also suffered serious injuries, state police said.

The driver and two passengers in the second car, a 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300, were not injured, state police said.
