BRIDGEPORT, Conn.—At a Mass on Aug. 29, the Rev. Rolando Torres was installed as the new pastor at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Bridgeport.
It was the first time in 35 years that the church has had a new pastor. Torres took over as pastor upon the retirement of Monsignor Matthew Bernnelli.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Torres said that he has been called “to serve all people.” During his remarks, he thanked not only God but also said, “I love you, Mom,” to his mother, who was among the family members in attendance.
Parishioners at the service included residents of Greenwich and Stamford, where Torres previously served as a priest.
