BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The public is invited to attend the first annual Bridgeport EarthFest on Thursday, April 21, the day before Earth Day.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. throughout downtown Bridgeport.
This collaborative celebration of Earth Day has been organized by The Kennedy Center’s Maggie Daly Arts Coop (MDAC) and The Bijou Theatre, as the recipients of a Regional Initiative Grant.
From 10 a.m. to noon, come get your hands dirty with Recycled Arts and Crafts at MDAC, 1042 Broad St., at the entrance on John Street. While there, check out Tossed & Found, a Recycled Art Exhibit by over 10 of the Kennedy Center’s Community Experience Programs.
From noon to 2 p.m., McLevy Green will come to life with a lineup including Tai Chi with Bridgeport's own Jonathan Davis, a drum circle hosted by Steve Scales (a former member of The Talking Heads), and a Story Telling Performance by The Sierra Club. In addition, the Green will be buzzing with the presence of several Bridgeport establishments such as The Bridgeport Public Library, Our Woven Community, Cook & Grow and Green Village.
Grab a bite to eat from Bones in a Barrel or Taco Loco, who will have their food trucks parked curbside. Then embark on a short journey around the Green to view the EarthFest Recycled Art Juried Exhibit. The winner of the exhibit will be announced that evening at The Bijou and receive a $1,000 prize.
At 4 p.m., The Bijou Theatre will open its doors for a reception of MDAC Artist's Earth Day Exhibit. Friends, family and art lovers can enjoy light refreshments and music while viewing the unique creations of the Maggie Daly Arts Cooperative.
At 6 p.m. the winners of the Juried Art Exhibit will be announced, and some of Bridgeport’s finest local musicians will provide live music from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
