Gunman Gets 8 Years, No Parole, For $35,000 Secaucus Bank Robbery
An out-of-state man who admitted robbing a bank in Secaucus of $35,000 in cash at gunpoint was sentenced to nearly eight years in federal prison, authorities said.
Jose Luis Martinez, 33, of Iowa, must serve all of the plea-bargained 94-month sentence because there's no parole in the federal prison system.

A driver from Rockland County who sped off from a Route 17 stop and crashed moments later was captured on foot miles away, Saddle River police said.
John N. Papain, 37, of Suffern, was pulled over on the northbound highway shortly after 1:30 a.m. Monday, July 17, Saddle River Police Chief Jason Cosgriff said.
Papain was speaking with the officers on the side of the road when he suddenly hit the gas of his 2009 Ford Escape and sped off, the chief said.

A Long Island man was the victim of a bank fraud scam that cost him nearly $17,000, according to police.
On Tuesday, May 9, a 44-year-old Flower Hill man attempted to purchase an item online, the Nassau County Police Department reported.
However, the website asked the man to provide personal information, and he soon canceled the purchasing process as it made him uncomfortable.
The next day, the victim received a call from an unknown man claiming he was a Bank of America Fraud Specialist, police said.

A Boston man was indicted this week with the murder of a Lawrence man in 2022, authorities announced on Wednesday, May 17.
Lee Harvey, 30, of Roslindale, was charged with robbing and killing 32-year-old Jose Delacruz outside of a Bank of America at 257 Essex St. in Lawrence on March 27, 2022, the Essex County District Attorney said.
The grand jury also returned indictments against Harvey on charges of carrying a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and armed robbery while masked, the prosecutor said.

Police apprehended an alleged attempted bank robber on Long Island shortly after the incident.
The attempted robbery occurred in Nassau County at the Bank of America around 9:45 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22.

A suspect has been apprehended after a string of bank robberies and attempted robberies on Long Island that started in early January.
At about 1:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, the suspect, identified as Willian Andrade Jordan, age 31, entered the Bank of America in Baldwin, at 2300 Grand Ave., approached a teller, passed a note threatening a gun and a knife and demanded three thousand dollars, Nassau County Police said.

A man wanted in connection with an attempted Hudson Valley bank robbery was nabbed by police.
Orange County resident Basil Martusevich, age 56, of the town of Newburgh, was caught around 10:45 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4.
The attempted robbery took place in the town of Newburgh around 5 p.m. Friday at the Bank of America, located at 1414 Route 300, said Lt. Peter Talarico.
During the attempted robbery, Martusevich threatened a teller with a gun and then fled the scene, Talarico said.
