Lane Closures Suspended Across NY For Holiday Weekend
Gov. Kathy Hochul, in anticipation of the upcoming holiday weekend, announced the suspension of all construction-related lane closures across the state.
From 6 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1 to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6, all temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects across New York State will be suspended, the governor announced on Friday, Sept. 1.
The decision is meant to ease travel congestion over Labor Day Weekend, Hochul said.

Driver Who Sped Away From Trooper Crashes, Suffers Serious Injuries On NJ Turnpike (Update)
A 49-year-old man from New York who was stopped in the shoulder of the New Jersey Turnpike was seriously injured when he suddenly sped away from the trooper checking on him, hitting another vehicle Sunday morning, May 14, authorities said.
The man was stopped in a Honda Accord on the shoulder near milepost 54.2 in Bordentown, when a trooper came over to check on him around 10:35 a.m., NJSP Sgt. Philip Curry said.
Suddenly, the Accord sped off, crossing from the outer roadway to the inner roadway, striking the passenger side of a Honda Odyssey, police said.

A notoriously busy intersection on Long Island is getting a massive makeover.
Work has begun on a $3.8 million improvement project in the Village of Westbury, at the intersection of Glen Cove Road, Jericho Turnpike (State Route 25), and the Northern State Parkway, transportation officials announced Monday, Nov. 28.
With enhanced safety and mobility in mind, the project will see the addition of several new lanes, a raised median, upgraded signals, and other improvements designed to reduce congestion and ease travel, officials said.

State Police have identified the two men killed in last week's tractor-trailer crash in which watermelons were strewn across the New Jersey Turnpike in Mercer County.
Malcom Cope, 55, of Douglas, Georgia, and Van Huston, 56, of Jamaica, New York, were pronounced dead after the northbound truck veered off the turnpike, struck a guard rail and slammed into a concrete bridge support near milepost 60.3, state troopers said.
Cope was the driver and Huston was a passenger.
