Police arrested a 21-year-old Connecticut man after a woman said she had to fight him off last month when he groped her as she walked her dog in Fairfield County, authorities said.
Jgai Purcell, of Shelton, is charged with sexual assault and was being held on a $50,000 bond, police said Wednesday, Sept. 25.
A 47-year-old woman told officers she was walking her dog on Canal Street in Shelton on Aug. 8, when a man approached her because he "wanted to get to know her," police said.

Stephen Lupkas, age 54, of Shelton, was arrested after turning himself in to police on Monday, July 22, in connection with a fire at his home at 7 Bruce Drive on Saturday, June 22.

A Fairfield County man who allegedly assaulted and stabbed a 35-year-old woman and then fled has been captured by police.

Christopher Graham, age 38, of Shelton, was captured on Wednesday, April 24, for the incident on Tuesday, April 23, at a Walnut Tree Hill Road home.

Big changes are coming to a Fairfield County ShopRite that is undergoing a renovation.
The privately owned grocery chain announced on Thursday, March 14, that the renovation of its Commerce Street ShopRite, located at 1990 W. Main St. in Stamford, is well underway.
The Commerce Street store renovation will feature a new exterior façade and interior decor enhancements, as well as completely reimagined floral, produce, prepared foods, seafood, meat, dairy, and frozen departments.

A Connecticut man has been taken into custody after the belief he was running a narcotics ring in the area led police to search his home.
On Tuesday, Dec. 19 in Fairfield County, the Shelton Police Department raided the home of Carlos Baez Jr., age 28.
The department, alongside the Statewide Narcotics Task Force Southwest Office (SNTF-SW), Statewide Urban Violence Cooperative Crime Control Task Force, the Connecticut State Police Violent Crime Task Force, the DEA, and more suspected that Baez, a Shelton resident, was distributing narcotics throughout the greater Valley area.

A 53-year-old Connecticut man will spend the next eight months in prison after he admitted to taking bribes to sell contracts to build, maintain, and repair three colleges in Massachusetts, federal authorities said.
Floyd Young, of the city of Shelton in Fairfield County, pleaded guilty in August 2020 to one count of conspiracy and three counts of bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said. He was sentenced on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
