Coastal Flood Warning Issued For Many Jersey Shore Areas Due To Onshore Flow, High Tides: NWS
Many coastal areas of New Jersey are under the threat of moderate flooding during high tides over the weekend, forecasters said.
The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood warning on Friday, May 10 for coastal parts of Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, and Ocean counties. A coastal flood advisory was issued for oceanfront areas of Middlesex and Monmouth counties, as well as bayfront and riverfront parts of Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties.

More than 3,000 customers were without power in Monmouth County after a substation caught fire, officials said.
A substation fire at the entrance to Sandy Hook caused the outage on Monday, Apr. 8, Atlantic Highlands police said in a Facebook post. Route 36 crossings in Atlantic Highlands were temporarily closed.
According to Jersey Central Power & Light's outage map, power was lost for 2,414 customers in Middletown, 1,044 customers in Atlantic Highlands, and nine customers in Highlands as of 5:30 p.m.

Missing Postal Worker's Body Recovered From Jersey Shore
The search for Corey McFadden has come to a tragic end.
The body of the missing 33-year-old postal worker, who was reported missing by co-workers on Monday, May 1, was recovered approximately a mile off the Sandy Hook coast after being spotted by a fisherman on Monday, May 22, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Philip Curry said.
McFadden, of Lower Township, was a U.S. Postal Service employee who have delivered mail in Cape May City since 2019, a manager said.

Two Bodies Recovered Off Jersey Beaches In May So Far
Two bodies have been recovered off of Jersey Shore beaches so far this month, authorities said.
On Monday, May 22 at approximately 6 p.m., New Jersey State Police were notified that the body of a deceased white man was located roughly 1 mile offshore north of Sandy Hook, according to Sgt. Philip Curry, a spokesman for the State Police.
FDNY Marine Unit and the US Coast Guard arrived and recovered the body, Curry said.
The deceased man had not been identified and this incident is under investigation, he said. There were no additional details.

Man Convicted Of Raping Woman After 1st Date On Jersey Shore Beach, Authorities Say
A Monmouth County jury has found a Hudson County man guilty of raping a woman after their first date at a Jersey Shore beach, authorities said
Kawami R. Junor, 28, of Bayonne, was convicted on all charges, including sexual assault, criminal restraint and criminal sexual contact, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey.
Junor was additionally found guilty of assault by auto, a disorderly persons offense, by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Joseph W. Oxley following the verdict.
Junor is scheduled to be sentenced on May 6.

They almost needed a bigger boat.
A thresher shark weighing more than 500 pounds was caught by a trio of fishermen from the Staten Island Fishing Club following a three-hour battle off the coast of Sandy Hook, N.J. on Sunday, Aug. 18.
Joseph Egitto, 27, of Arden Heights; Pat Salvato, 42, of Tottenville; and Frank Pomponio, 25, of Great Kills, reeled in the 510-pound shark, which measured at a whopping 94 inches in length.
The three took turns strapping into a harness as they fought the shark, which was eventually dragged onto the 23-foot boat after it was hooked.
