Man From Region Caught Stealing Copper Pipes, Police Say
A man from the region was arrested after allegedly being caught in the basement of a housing complex sawing off copper pipes.
Sullivan County resident Joshua Whidbee, age 44, of Monticello, was nabbed on Monday, Dec. 13, after the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a burglary.
According to Undersheriff Eric Chaboty, of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the Sunny Forest Bungalow Colony on Liberty Road in the town of Thompson.

Burglary Suspect Nabbed Inside Occupied Northern Westchester Home, Police Say
A local man was arrested on burglary and other charges after he allegedly broke into an occupied Northern Westchester home.
Westchester County Police received a call shortly before 11:30 a.m., Sunday, March 1, reporting a burglary was in progress at 68 Maple Avenue, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the department.
Another person said the resident had just confronted an intruder in his apartment.
Police Officers Scott Forsythe, Brian Tierney and Bryan Yatsko responded, located the man inside the apartment and took him into custody, he added.

A man wearing a black ski mask, gloves and carrying a backpack was nabbed for allegedly attempting to rip off tires and rims at a Westport car dealership.
Robert Mebane, Jr., 28, of Stratford, was arrested around 3:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 16, after Westport Police received a call from an alarm monitoring service for Honda of Westport, that a suspicious person could be seen on the surveillance video camera footage of the business, said Westport Police Lt. Police: Homeowner Watched Union Burglary On Video In Real Time, Suspect Caught
A Union homeowner was at work in New York when the homeowner watched someone burglarize the residence via their video security system, police said.
A rookie police officer, Thyago Morais, was dispatched to the home on Roseland place Wednesday afternoon and caught the suspect, James Reed, coming out of the rear garage. Morais, who joined the force in January, arrested Reed without incident.
Reed, 42, of Orange, has been charged with burglary, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.
Homeowner Confronts Suspects During Attempted Burglary In Cos Cob, Police Say
Two men were nabbed by Greenwich Police after they allegedly attempted to break into a Cos Cob home, only to be confronted by the homeowner.
Jacob Rivera, 26, and Nafi Rodriguez, 23, both of the Bronx, were arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 1, after they “were confronted by the homeowner when they attempted to force entry through a rear door," Greenwich Police said.
Both men fled, but were located about a mile away, police added.
The duo was charged with criminal trespass, possession of burglary tools, criminal attempt at burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Two men have been charged with burglary and other offenses after they broke into a Ferncliff Terrace home Monday morning, Montclair police said.
A man at the home was asleep when he heard a loud crash around 8 a.m., authorities said. When he investigated, he found a first-floor window smashed and saw two men on his porch. The men ran when he called out, police said.
Responding officers arrested Maplewood resident Henry Smith, 28, on Stanford Place. The second man, 27-year-old Nyedair Parker of Paterson, was caught on Columbus Avenue, police said.

Neighbor Leads Clifton PD To Wanted Pennsylvania Man In Vacant House
CLIFTON, N.J. -- A neighbor who noticed a man going in and out of a vacant home called Clifton police, who said they found the stranger hiding in the attic with bolt and glass cutters and other burglary tools.
Martin Adam Burnett, 47, of Coal Township, PA, had an outstanding warrant out of South Jersey, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said.
Burnett was standing with a flashlight in the bay window of the Springdale Court home, then hid as responding officers pulled up, Bracken said.
