NY Move Over Law To Expand, Include All Stopped Vehicles
In an attempt to make driving safer for all New Yorkers, Gov. Kathy Hochul reminded drivers that the Move Over Law would be expanded by the end of March 2024.
Starting Wednesday, March 27, New York’s Move Over Law, which was originally adopted to prevent collisions with emergency vehicles, will be expanded to include all vehicles stopped on highways, Hochul announced.
“The safety of all New Yorkers is my top priority, especially those pulled over to the side of the road,” she said.

DWI Crackdown: Over 500 Tickets Issued To Long Island Drivers Labor Day Weekend, Police Say
Hundreds of Long Island drivers were issued tickets during the holiday weekend as part of a statewide crackdown on distracted and dangerous driving, police said.
From Friday, Sept. 1 to Monday, Sept. 4, the New York State Police arrested over a dozen people for driving under the influence and handed out hundreds more tickets on Long Island, the department announced.
Of the 572 tickets given, 165 of them were for speeding, 32 were for distracted driving, 12 were for child restraint or seatbelt violations, and three were for violations of the Move Over Law.

Lane Closures Suspended Across NY For Holiday Weekend
Gov. Kathy Hochul, in anticipation of the upcoming holiday weekend, announced the suspension of all construction-related lane closures across the state.
From 6 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1 to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6, all temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects across New York State will be suspended, the governor announced on Friday, Sept. 1.
The decision is meant to ease travel congestion over Labor Day Weekend, Hochul said.

Drunk Driver Crashes Into Cruiser, Causing Hours-Long Long Island Expressway Closure In Suffolk
A chain-reaction crash involving an allegedly drunk driver caused the hours-long closure of a stretch of the Long Island Expressway.
It happened around 4:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 in Hauppauge.
Tracy Smith, age 30, of Huntington Station, was driving a 2021 Volkswagen on the westbound side of the expressway, a half-mile west of exit 55, when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a Highway Patrol Bureau cruiser, with its lights activated, that was parked on the shoulder behind another vehicle, Suffolk County Police said.

The final tally is in, and New York State Police troopers dished out more than 12,000 tickets and arrested nearly 150 motorists for alleged impaired driving, authorities announced.
Between Wednesday, Nov. 24, and Sunday, Nov. 28, New York State Police issued 12,975 tickets during their annual Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period, down slightly from the previous year’s campaign.

New York State Police troopers were busy over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, dishing out nearly 100 tickets during a pair of details on I-684 in Westchester.
On Wednesday, Nov. 27, troopers conducted a “move over” enforcement detail along the I-684 corridor in Westchester, which was “conducted in furtherance of our mission to ensure highway safety for all users of the roadway.”
