Diana Golonek and Officer Grant Novak arrived at a house fire just before midnight Thursday. The living-room blaze was beginning to cook, leaving the pair little time. Golonek emptied two fire extinguishers on the flames while Novak opened a garden hose he'd pulled through an open French door of the 5,000-square-foot house on tiny dead-ended Dogwood Drive late on June 28. Roofer Injured In Saddle River Fall A roofer sustained a head injury in a fall at a Saddle River home Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. The worker initially was unconscious after falling from the roof of the home on East Saddle River Road around 1:30 p.m., Police Chief Jason Cosgriff said. "He was conscious when we arrived and exhibiting signs of a head injury," the chief said. The roofer was taken to the trauma unit at Hackensack University Medical Center by an EMS unit from the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

A road crew from Orange & Rockland Utilities was expected somewhere between 5:30-6 p.m., he said.
