Phelps Hospital Workers Sign Agreement, Avoid Strike
Following week-long bargaining sessions, workers at a Westchester hospital have reached an agreement, avoiding a planned one-day strike.
Caregivers at Phelps Hospital, which Northwell Health owns, reached a tentative agreement with hospital leaders on Thursday morning, May 30, according to 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.
As a result, a one-day strike planned for Friday, May 31 was avoided, union officials said.
The tentative agreement includes:
Wage increases retroactive to April 2023;
No-cost family health insurance;
Secure pensions;

The positive COVID-19 infection rate in New York is on the rise, though the Hudson Valley saw less than 1,000 new cases, according to the latest data released by the state Department of Health.
According to the state Department of Health, the average seven-day COVID-19 infection rate rose in the Hudson Valley for the third straight day, up from 4.49 percent on Friday, March 12 to 4.62 percent on Sunday, March 14, the highest rate in the nation, ahead of Long Island (4.40 percent), and New York City (4.15 percent).

Thirteen new virus-related deaths were reported in Ulster County over the weekend, while there were none in Sullivan County as the area combats more than 2,600 active COVID-19 cases.
There have now been 203 reported COVID-19 deaths in Ulster County, where there are 2,458 active cases being monitored on Monday, Jan. 25, up slightly from 2,429 late last week.

There were more than 2,400 new COVID-19 cases on Long Island, according to the latest data released by the state.
In Suffolk County, 1,293 new COVID-19 cases were reported from tests taken on on Monday, Jan. 18, according to the state Department of Health. There were 1,157 new infections in Nassau.
The number of new cases is the highest of any region in the state outside of New York City, where there were 5,350 new cases reported on Jan. 18. No other county had more than 600 confirmed cases in the past 24 hours.
