A man accused of brutally attacking a woman with a hammer inside his home in the region, leaving her with a cracked skull and broken bones, has been convicted by a jury.
Demar Reinfurt, age 43, was found guilty of multiple felonies by a Schenectady County jury on Thursday, July 6, in connection with the March 2020 attack inside his Schenectady apartment.
The victim managed to call 911 at around 2 a.m. on March 27, 2020 and dispatchers heard her say, “unlock the door” 14 times.

A Central Pennsylvania community is mourning the loss of a father-of-four who collapsed shortly after a surprise trip home from work just to kiss his wife, those who knew him said.
Joseph M. Matonti IV, 40, of Coatesville, told his wife he wasn’t feeling well and collapsed in her arms in the driveway, according to a GoFundMe launched by family friend, JenMarie Macdonald.

A retired Newark deputy fire chief who was also a firefighter in Hackensack and Saddle Brook was seriously injured in a construction accident behind Franklin Lakes police headquarters Wednesday morning, authorities said.
James Weiss, 59, was in emergency surgery at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson after he was struck in the head by a large sheet of metal at the Bender Court construction site just after 8:30 a.m., authorities said.
