East Hampton Sailor Becomes First American Woman To Race Around World
A sailor who hails from New York has done what only a small number of people have done — sailed around the world solo.
Twenty-nine-year-old Cole Brauer has made history.
The Long Island sailor, who grew up in Springs, East Hampton, became the first American woman to race solo nonstop around the world on Thursday, March 7.
She placed second in the Global Solo Challenge, which a total of 16 avid sailors signed up to compete in, after launching off from A Coruña, Spain on October 29, 2023.

Just days after one Long Islander won tens of thousands, a second winning ticket worth the same amount has been announced.
The third-place-winning Powerball ticket, worth $50,000, was sold in East Hampton for the Monday, Feb. 12 drawing, according to lottery officials.
It was sold at the Stop & Shop located at 67 Newtown Lane.

Alert Issued For Missing East Hampton 15-Year-Old
Authorities are asking for help in locating a 15-year-old Long Island boy who has been missing for over 24 hours.
John Gray, of East Hampton, was last seen at around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, on Three Mile Harbor Drive.
East Hampton Town Police said Gray, who has autism, was wearing a dark gray beanie, black jacket or sweatshirt, black pants, and black Nike sneakers. He was possibly carrying two black backpacks.
Investigators determined that the teen was in Manhattan at around 2:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, and may be using public transportation.

Eighteen people are facing charges in a 148-count indictment following a long-term investigation into gang-related robberies, thefts, and a murder committed on Long Island.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced the indictment of alleged members of the "No Fake Love" gang, also known as "NFL," on Monday, Dec. 12.

Two people suffered serious injuries after a crash near a busy Long Island intersection.
It happened on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at around 2:55 p.m. in Southampton, on County Road 39 east of Greenfield Road.
