West Nile Virus Found In Mosquitoes On Long Island; Here's How To Protect Yourself
Health officials on Long Island are urging people to take precautions after testing of mosquitoes confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus.
Twelve mosquito samples were positive for the virus following testing done at locations around Suffolk County, according to county Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott.
The samples were collected on Sunday, July 2, and Monday, July 3, in Northport, Melville, West Babylon, Lindenhurst, Holbrook, Holtsville, North Patchogue, Farmingville, and Manorville.
It brings the total number of positive mosquito samples this year to 16.

Camden Roadway Closed Due To Transformer Outage, NJ Transit Still Running
Due to an electrical transformer outage, Broadway between Federal Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in the City of Camden is closed to vehicles on Monday, Sept. 25, authorities said.
PSE&G will be working throughout the day and overnight until 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 for repairs, they said.
“Although the road is closed, NJ Transit traffic will still be permitted through to access the Walter Rand Transportation Center,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works.

There has been another case of hate-motivated vandalism reported in Maryland.
Kenny Antonio Guevara, 29, of Chillum, has been charged in Prince George’s County for allegedly damaging new street art in Hyattsville because he thought it "represented gay pride," according to police.
Late in the afternoon on Thursday, June 29, officers from the Hyattsville Police Department were called to the intersection of Jefferson Street and 40th Avenue, where a man was caught spray painting the recently completed project.

Park Somewhere Else: Limited Access To Public Playground In Port Chester Until Further Notice
A popular playground in Westchester County will soon have limited access due to construction work.
On Monday, Oct. 24, the parking lot for Abendroth Park in Port Chester will begin to be paved, which could limit or completely block access, according to town officials.
Any visitors will have to park on surrounding streets until further notice in order to visit the park, which features a playground, pavilion area, dog park, and athletic field, officials said.

8 Mosquito Samples Test Positive For West Nile Virus On Long Island
More mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus have been found on Long Island, health officials announced.
Eight mosquito samples tested positive for the virus following testing done at locations around Suffolk County, according to County Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott.
The samples were collected on Tuesday, Aug. 9, and Wednesday, Aug. 10, from Copiague, Cold Spring Harbor, Setauket, Aquebogue, Bay Shore, and Nesconset.
So far this year, 59 samples have tested positive for the virus, health officials said.
