Man Walking Dog Dies 9 Days After Being Struck, York Co. Coroner Says
An 88-year-old man has died just over a week after he was hit by a pick-truck, the York County Coroner's office announced on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
John Smeltzer of the 100 block of Claire Avenue, Hellam Borough was crossing West Market Street with his dog when he was struck by a 2017 Chevy Silverado turning onto the road from South Lee Street around 5:30pm on May 3, 2023, authorities explained.
Smeltzer was taken to WellSpan York Hospital where he died from blunt force trauma to his head at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, as certified by Deputy Coroner Michelle Rau.

An 87-year-old Montvale homeowner was kept distracted by a burglar whose partner slipped in and swiped a lock box from the victim's home.
The joke was on them, however: There weren't any valuables in it, authorities said.

Man Struck, Killed On Motorized Wheelchair In South Jersey
A 72-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a pickup truck in his motorized wheelchair, authorities said.
Decesare Filippo, 72, of Millville, was on West Main Street at 12:18 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 when he used a crosswalk at Riverside Drive, Millville police said.
A 20-year-old Millville man driving a Chevy Silverado turned left off West Main onto Riverside Drive, striking Filippo, police said.
Filippo was taken to Inspira Medical Center Vineland, where he died of his injuries.
The pickup driver was not hurt.
No charges had been filed.
The crash remains under investigation.

Pickup Truck Driver Killed In South Jersey Crash: State Police
A 65-year-old motorist from Burlington County was killed when he collided with an SUV, authorities said.
Mark G. Spang, of Medford, was killed in the crash involving his Chevy Silverado, a New Jersey State Police spokeswoman said.
Jacob B. Dischert, 25, who was operating a Jeep Grand Cherokee, was treated for minor injuries, Trooper Brandi Slota said.
The crash occurred at 7:54 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, in Southampton when Dischert, who was southbound on Eayrestown Road, slammed into the side of Spring's pickup eastbound on Route 616, she said.
The crash remains under investigation.

It was already a big bust, with police seizing meth, heroin, and cocaine, but when officers found a secret compartment in a truck they had pulled over on I-91 an even larger stash of drugs was discovered.
Altogether, officers seized nearly 5,000 bags of individually wrapped opioids - heroin and fentanyl - among other drugs.
