Tornado Touched Down In NY For Only Second Time Ever In February: Here's Where A tornado touched down in New York during a potent storm packed with damaging gusty winds accompanying a cold front last week, the National Weather Service has announced. A damage survey determined the timing to be around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 in Broome County about 10 miles north of Binghamton in the hamlet of Castle Creek. It had an estimated maximum wind speed of 100 miles per hour. The tornado tracked 0.61 miles, with a width of 150 yards. High Winds Close Roads, Knock Out Power In Lehigh Valley A cold front brought high winds and rain to greater Philadelphia on Wednesday night, Feb. 28, closing roads and leaving some residents without electricity.  The front brought wind gusts near 40 to 50 mph, downing trees and some power lines throughout the region as temperatures dipped into the 30s, said the National Weather Service and various local agencies.  Just under 2,000 PECO customers in Philly, lower Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware counties are still without power as of midday Thursday, according to the utility company's outage map.  Outages are also still af…

Thousands Without Power In NJ Thousands of New Jersey residents were without power as of 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, following gusty winds that swept the region overnight. The JCP&L map shows the following areas were in the dark: Hunterdon County: 3,953 customers Morris County: 3,642 customers Warren County: 3,594 customers Restoration times were not immediately available. Thursday will be partly sunny with a high near 40 and wind chill values between 20 and 30, the National Weather Service said. Friday, March 1 will be sunny with a high of 47.
