A probationary corrections officer was found allegedly smuggling in contraband to a Long Island jail, including a cell phone and a Bible coated in drugs, authorities said.
West Hempstead resident Javel Welch, age 38, was arraigned on Thursday, March 30, for multiple charges regarding the alleged contraband, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.

A Long Island woman was arrested, along with a Suffolk County inmate for allegedly using a 6-year-old child to pass drugs and contraband to the prisoner.
The arrests come after Sheriff’s Office Internal Security investigated a promoting prison contraband attempt between prisoner Kadeem Lewis, age 29, and visitor Shanita Limehouse, age 39, of Hempstead in Nassau County for an incident on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Riverhead Correctional Facility.

Officer Accused Of Attempting To Smuggle Narcotics Into Corrections Facility In Hudson Valley
A state corrections officer has been arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs into a Hudson Valley jail.
Charlinea Ganzaroli, age 23, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force, on Friday, Sept. 16, following an investigation.
The arrest was the result of an investigation into Ganzaroli, a current corrections officer, attempting to smuggle narcotics into a Hudson Valley correction institution, said Det. Sgt. Adam D. Harris, coordinator of the task force.
Police declined to name which institution and what type of drugs.

An inmate being brought into a Long Island jail before going to prison was busted attempting to smuggle drugs and weapons inside, according to the Suffolk County Sheriff.
On Wednesday, May 18, officials said that Holtsville resident William Santiago, age 36, was being booked into the Yaphank Correctional Facility when he was busted with drugs, razor blades, and “lighting materials” while being searched.
