Carteret Man Posing As Walmart Worker Scams NY Woman, 69, Out Of $20K: Police
A phone call claiming to protect a Long Island resident's savings ended in a $20,000 scam carried out by a 51-year-old New Jersey man, according to authorities.
The victim, a 69-year-old New Hyde Park woman, received the call from Tejas Kapur, of Carteret, who falsely identified himself as a Walmart employee, according to Nassau County Police.
Kapur told the victim that there was fraudulent activity on her account and that her Social Security number was compromised, authorities said.
Kapur then instructed the victim to move her money out of her bank account to protect it.

Three people from three different Long Island stores were arrested after authorities claimed they sold alcohol, tobacco, and THC products to minors.
The arrests took place on Monday, March 18 throughout Nassau County with the assistance of underage agents and the department’s Problem Oriented Policing (POP) unit.

A young man from New Jersey was arrested after he was discovered to be part of a group that has committed a string of burglaries across Long Island, police announced.
Fazon Farrington, age 19 of Newark, New Jersey, was arrested following an investigation that stemmed from a Lake Success incident, Nassau County Police said on Thursday, March 14.
On Saturday, Jan. 13, a group of three men, also from New Jersey, were reportedly fleeing from the scene of a home they attempted to burgle — but were stopped when they crashed into the officers driving towards the scene.

An anesthesiologist faces charges after allegedly giving anesthesia to a victim without her knowledge and sexually assaulting her, police announced.
Putnam County resident Paul Giacopelli of Southeast, age 59, was interviewed and arrested on Saturday, Dec. 30 on sexual abuse charges, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
According to authorities, on Friday, Dec. 29, the Sheriff's Office was told that a female victim known to Giacopelli had been given anesthesia without her knowledge and was then sexually assaulted.

A Long Island man was arrested after he punched a woman, attempted to run into traffic, and fought an officer – all while nude, police said.

Diego Ercoli, age 50, and Hector Portilla, age 60, both of Queens, were arrested Thursday, Aug. 3, after they were caught breaking into Merrick’s Bagel Chalet on Merrick Road, according to Nassau County Police.

A Long Island mother and daughter who went missing have been found.
Jiery Ramos-Martinez, age 2, and her mother, Telma Martinez, age 24, had last been seen in New Hyde Park walking on Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park on Friday, June 16 at 7 a.m., according to Nassau County Police.
On Saturday afternoon, June 17, police reported the two have been found.
