Stranded Kayaker Rescued In Bellport Bay
Two Long Island Marine Bureau officers rescued a man after his kayak overturned.
Suffolk County Police Officers Terence McGovern and Jack Jantzen responded aboard Marine Mike to a 911 call from a man whose kayak overturned in Bellport Bay, between buoys 8 and 9, around 12:50 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30.
The officers located the kayaker, Diego Sponza, who was wearing a lifejacket but no wetsuit, and pulled him aboard their boat, police said.
Sponza, age 35, of Shirley, was transported to the Bellport Marina and then to a local hospital for treatment of possible hypothermia.

Marine Police on Long Island rescued two men after their jet ski became disabled.
The incident took place around 5:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23, in the Fire Island Inlet near Overlook Beach in. Babylon.
According to Suffolk County Police, two men were riding a Yamaha Jet Ski in the Fire Island Inlet, when the vehicle became disabled. One of the men called 911 and reported they were drifting in the inlet.

Police officers and two good Samaritans on Long Island rescued a man who nearly drowned.
Alan Goldberg, age 70, of Coram, was attempting to anchor a boat on Whitehall Beach when he lost his footing and became unresponsive in the water at approximately 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 20 in Port Jefferson, Suffolk County Police said.
The good Samaritans on the beach, Frances George, age 30, and Karl George, age 65, performed CPR until Marine Bureau officers Cory Kim and Shane Parker arrived on the scene and transferred Goldberg onto Marine Delta.

Two Teen Jet Skiers Rescued In Oceanside
Two jet skiers were rescued by a quick-moving team of emergency responders on Long Island.
At 7: 17 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, a report came in of two teenage boys stranded in the marsh area on their jet skis near Parsonage Cove in Oceanside, according to Nassau County Police.
One of the teens, 17, was close to the shore and assisted by a civilian prior to police arrival. The second teen, 17, was further into the marsh and rescued by a Nassau County Police helicopter then taken to a safe location, said police. Neither of the teenagers was injured, according to police.

A man on a jet ski was rescued from Merrick Bay.
Marine rescuers responded at 8:46 p.m. to the bay for a jet skier in distress on Wednesday night, July 10., according to Nassau County Police.
Marine Bureau, Aviation Bureau, U.S. Coast Guard, and 7th precinct officers, along with multiple fire departments, searched the bay, police said.
The Nassau Heli 5 helicopter located the man in the marsh on Big Crow Island, according to police.
