Man Scams 9/11 Victim, Widow On Long Island: Police
A Queens man has been arrested after he allegedly conned two women out of over $150,000, including one Long Islander who was awarded money as part of the 9/11 Victim Fund, police said.
Richard Yasnis, age 42, was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 20 for his alleged Locust Valley crimes, according to Nassau County Police.
In July 2023, Yasnis, who is from Jamaica, Queens, allegedly posed as an investment advisor and representative of the Cahill Financial Group, which is based in New York City.

Devin Spraggins, a transient who has several addresses in the Bronx, was apprehended by US Marshals and New York Police detectives around 9 p.m., Thursday, April 6, for the attempted murder of NYPD Officer Brett Boller, age 22, of Hauppauge on Wednesday, April 5, said NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig.

The incident took place in Lynbrook around 1 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, on Merrick Road.

10-Year-Old Sexually Abused By Church Employee From Long Island, Police Say
A church employee from Long Island is facing charges for allegedly sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl.
Daniel Butler, age 41, of Elmont, was arrested on multiple charges, including first-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child, following an investigation by Nassau County Police.
Investigators said Butler sexually abused the victim in December 2022. The girl attended an after-school program at the Fullness of Joy Ministries Church, located in Jamaica, Queens, where Butler serves as director.

A man claimed a $3 million prize from a New York Lottery scratch-off ticket.
Michael Bhajan, a resident of the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, won the prize from the lottery's Electric 10X scratch-off game, NY Lottery announced on Monday, Sept. 12.
He chose to receive his prize as a single, lump-sum payment of $1,573,457 after required withholdings, NY Lottery said.
“Now I can do things I enjoy,” he told NY Lottery after claiming his prize.

Detectives found 144 pounds of pot in a pickup truck in Teaneck and took the driver into custody, authorities said.
Adrian Diaz Resendiz, a 30-year-old food prep worker from Jamaica, Queens, was “transporting bulk shipments of marijuana through Bergen County,” Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
