More than a year after a New York college student was killed in a fiery, drunk-driving crash in the region, the man responsible has formally confessed.
Vasu Laroiya, 24, of Iselin, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide in Albany County Court on Tuesday, Nov. 28, in the death of Katie Fisher.
Laroiya admitted that he was Snapchatting while driving drunk at 156 miles per hour on I-87 in Colonie when he struck Fisher’s Honda Civic on the night of May 28, 2022.

A motorcycle driver is facing charges for a suspected drunk driving crash in the region that killed a mother of three.
The deadly wreck happened just before 8 p.m. Sunday, July 30, in Saratoga County, on I-87 in the Town of Wilton, according to New York State Police.
Troopers said Richard Irelan, age 45, of Johnstown in Fulton County, was driving his motorcycle on the off-ramp at Exit 15 when he collided with a pickup truck.
Irelan’s female passenger, 43-year-old Amanda Sullivan, of Johnstown, was thrown into the roadway and was found severely injured.

A 36-year-old driver is facing charges after he allegedly threatened to injure another motorist and damaged their car during a road-rage incident in the region.
The Albany County incident happened Monday, April 24, on I-87 in Colonie, according to State Police.
Troopers were told that Mark Edmonds, of Albany, had called 911 and reported a two-car, hit-and-run crash near exit 6.
However, an investigation found that Edmonds had actually been in a one-car crash with a guardrail while avoiding a collision, police said.

A 34-year-old man is facing drug charges after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop and leading troopers on a high-speed highway chase in the region.
The incident happened at around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, in Saratoga County, on I-87 in the town of Wilton, according to State Police.
After initially pulling over, Michael Casseus, of Troy, reportedly failed to comply with troopers’ commands and fled the scene, leading to a pursuit.

A New York City duo is facing charges after they were allegedly busted with a massive amount of marijuana during a traffic stop in the region.
Troopers in Saratoga County stopped the suspects’ car just after noon on Thursday, Nov. 10, as they drove on I-87 in the town of Wilton, according to State Police.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed approximately 400 pounds of marijuana, police said.

Traffic Stop Leads To Felony Drug Charges For Capital District Man
A traffic stop in the Capital District ended with a man jailed on felony drug charges, authorities said.
State Police in Saratoga County stopped William Boyd, age 38, of Niskayuna, at around 9:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, on I-87 in the town of Moreau.
Troopers had initially stopped Boyd for violating vehicle and traffic laws, police said.
During their interaction, however, troopers determined that he was in possession of a large quantity of cocaine, according to police.
Boyd was arrested on felony charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

A man is accused of causing damage to another vehicle during a road-rage incident in the Hudson Valley.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3 in Rockland County on northbound I-87 in the town of Ramapo, according to state police.
Troopers located and stopped both vehicles.
The investigation at the scene determined that Davonne S. Wilmore, age 31, of the Bronx, threw a water bottle at a 2019 Mercedes-Benz truck, causing damage, said state police.

A woman from the Capital Region was drunk and driving on just rims before she was stopped by troopers, New York State Police said.
A trooper stopped Elizabeth Sheyon, age 41, of Troy, at around 3 a.m. Saturday, May 7, after seeing sparks coming from her car as she drove south on I-87 in Clifton Park, police said.
When the trooper approached the vehicle, they realized it did not have any tires on the passenger side and was being driven on just the rims, police said.
