First Responders Rally For Hunterdon County Police Officer Diagnosed With ALS
A longtime first responder in Hunterdon County is in the fight for his life.
Peter Serrone, 49, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, (ALS) in Dec. 2023, following a longtime career as a first responder, serving as a volunteer firefighter, EMT and police officer, first in Raritan Township and later Readington Township, where he achieved a rank the corporal.
A fundraiser has been set up to assist Serrone and his family with costs related to ALS. As of Friday, Feb. 9, more than $20,000 has been raised.

ICE Looks To Deport Stolen Car Passenger, 22, After Montvale Pursuit, Elmwood Park Crash
A stolen vehicle pursuit that began in Montvale ended in a crash and the arrests of two occupants at a Garden State Parkway exit ramp in Elmwood Park.
Police began pursuing the Range Rover, which had been reported stolen out of Saddle River, on Chestnut Ridge Road around 5 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, Montvale Police Chief Doug McDowell said.
The vehicle crashed at Exit 157 onto Route 46 off the southbound Parkway 15 or so minutes later.
The driver, Raidis A. Santos Tejada, 19, of Newark was trapped in the car and taken at gunpoint, Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno said.

Speeding Driver Had Ecstasy Pills, Powder During Route 78 Traffic Stop, Police Say
A driver stopped for speeding on Route 78 early Wednesday was found with both ecstasy pills and powder, authorities said.
Donald Thomas, 37, was stopped for speeding on Route 78 in Readington Township around 1:50 a.m., local police said.
Thomas, of East Orange, was found with several ecstasy pills and a bag of suspected crushed ecstacy, police said.
Thomas was charged with drug possession and issued summonses for speeding, maintenance of lamps, driving while suspended, and drug possession in a motor vehicle, authorities said.
2 Charged After Crack, Molly, Xanax Found In Car Stopped For Bogus Plates In Hunterdon County
A driver and passenger were charged after numerous drugs including crack cocaine, Molly, and Xanax were found in a car that was pulled over for bearing bogus license plates, authorities said.
Cesar O. Nunez, 32, was driving on Route 22 when he was stopped for having fictitious license plates around 2:05 a.m. on Monday, March 7, Readington Township Police said.
A follow-up search of the vehicle turned up crack cocaine, police said.
Meanwhile, the front seat passenger, Brooklyn resident Delano D. Muller, 33, was found with suspected Xanax, Clonazepan, and Molly, police said.

Police: 2 Men Charged With DWI In Back-To-Back Hunterdon County Crashes
Two men face DWI charges after back-to-back crashes in Hunterdon County, police said.
Delbert Davis, 49, of Readington Township was charged with DWI, careless driving and failure to maintain lane after crashing his truck into a tree near 29 Holland Brook Rd. around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 21, local police said.
Less than two hours later, Brian Cromen, of Branchburg Township, was involved in an overturned vehicle crash near Rt. 523 and Willow Court, Readington Township police said.
Cromen, 44, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot after the crash, authorities said.
