The legendary actress and comedian Whoopi Goldberg, who has won an Emmy, Oscar, Tony and Grammy, will be signing copies of her new book, "Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother and Me," at Bookends in Ridgewood on Thursday May 9, at 5:30 p.m.
Goldberg, a longtime West Orange resident, wrote the book as a tribute to her mother, Emma, and her brother, Clyde, who died in 2010 and 2015, respectively. Ten people were arrested on outstanding warrants in the city, ranging from aggravated assault to being in possession of a handgun, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.
Brenda Velasquez, a 46-year-old Kearney resident, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 7 after a warrant was issued for her arrest on charges of aggravated assault and weapon possession following an altercation with a woman in January, Fragé said.

East Orange Officer Who Caused 22 Fractures In 9-Year-Old Son's Body Convicted: Prosecutor
A 53-year-old East Orange police officer faces up to 80 years in prison after being convicted of assaulting his 9-year-old son in 2018 on Friday, March 1, authorities said.
In February 2018, Devin Higgs, a West Orange resident, brought his son to the hospital for injuries that Higgs said were from a fall, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said.
The child had suffered 22 fractures on his ribs and a fractured scapula bone, along with bruises, scars and marks on his body, a sign of child abuse, Stephens said.

Two men wanted for beating attendants during a two-day spree of quick-stop armed gas station robberies in three New Jersey counties were captured by federal agents, authorities said.
Ex-con Ahmad Singletary, 24, and Joseph Young, 26, both of Newark, committed three of the robberies last Sept. 5, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said.
Four more holdups -- also in a single day -- followed exactly a week later, the U.S. attorney said.
Singletary "threatened, assaulted, and struck victims in the head" with a Ruger 9 mm P95 handgun, injuring all of them, a complaint filed by the ATF says.

West Orange Rapper, 24, Killed In Crash En Route To Los Angeles, Producer Says
A 24-year-old West Orange rapper was killed in Kansas when his car crashed into a sign pilar while was he was driving on the highway on Wednesday, Jan. 10, authorities said.
At 12:39 p.m., Damian Osborne was driving a 2004 Buick Century on the I-70 Turnpike in Leavenworth County, near Kansas City, when his vehicle "for unknown reason" left the roadway to the left and collided with the sign pillar, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.
Osborne was pronounced dead at the scene, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

Ralph Macajoux, Lifelong West Orange Resident, Dies At 49
Ralph Macajoux, a lifelong resident of West Orange, died on Sunday, July 2 at the age of 49, following a brief illness, according to his obituary.
Macajoux was a youth behavioral therapist, working at the Spectrum 360 Academy in Livingston and the Jewish Community Center in West Orange, helping young adults with special needs, his obituary reads.
