Full Circle For Wantage Army General In New Role Helming Crucial Reserve Unit
The U.S. Army's Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey was the first place Kris Belanger first stepped foot when she enlisted in the Army.
Now, she's one of the people running the show there.
Belanger is the new commanding general of nearly 45,000 Army Reserve soldiers in the Army Reserve’s 99th Readiness Division, headquartered on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
"On July 27, 1986, I stepped foot on these grounds for the first time," said Belanger, a Wantage native, during a change-of-command ceremony on Friday, Aug. 11. "Today, I came full circle.”

Sussex County native, veteran, and dedicated father Michael Christopher Langan died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the age of 35.
Born in Paterson, Michael grew up in Wantage before eventually moving to Jacksonville, Florida, where he lived at the time of his passing, his obituary says.
Michael was formerly assigned to the US Army 555th Engineer Brigade at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, his memorial says.

Funeral Services Set For Jonathan Fett, Sussex HS Senior Killed In Crash Days Before Graduation
Funeral arrangements have been made for Jonathan Tyler Fett, the Sussex County high school senior killed in a crash days before he was set to graduate.
Fett, 18, was behind the wheel of a Jeep Grand Cherokee going west on Rt. 650 when he was fatally struck by a GMC Sierra going north on Rt. 519 in Wantage around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.
Fett, a lifelong Wantage resident, was less than a week away from his graduation at Sussex County Technical School, his obituary says.

Sussex Dump Truck Driver Indicted For Route 3 Crash That Killed Girl, 1, Injured Mom
UPDATE: A dump truck driver who caused a crash that killed a 1-year-old girl and seriously injured her mother on Route 3 in Clifton last summer was indicted on aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges.
The indictment returned by a grand jury in Paterson also charges Chad Hines, 41, of Wantage with two counts of death by auto, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said.
Hines remained jailed pending an arraignment on the indictment, Valdes said Monday.

Sussex County native and father of two Dylan J. Suess died suddenly at Morristown Medical Center on Sunday, March 7. He was 29.
Born in Westwood, Suess spent time in Little Ferry, Missouri, and Wantage before settling in Milford, PA in 2019, his obituary says.
In 2010, Suess graduated from High Point Regional High School, where he played hockey, baseball and football and served as a “life member of the Suess Gang,” his memorial says.
Suess had used his creative side to work as a manager at Sherman Williams in Newton, his obit says.

State Police: Sussex County Man Ejected, Seriously Injured In Route 284 Motorcycle Crash
A Sussex County man was seriously injured after crashing a motorcycle into a snowbank off Route 284 Sunday morning, state police said.
John Veres Jr., 50, was driving a Honda motorcycle northbound on Rt. 284 when he veered to the right and hit a snowbank near milepost 2.3 in Wantage around 11:10 a.m., NJSP Philip Curry told Daily Voice.
Veres Jr., of Montague, was ejected in the crash and sustained serious injuries, Curry said.
The road was closed for about three hours following the crash, which remains under investigation, Curry said.
