19-Year-Old Duo Nabbed In Robbery, Attempted Robberies Of Mail Carriers In Suffolk County: Cops
A pair of 19-year-olds were arrested in connection with a string of attempted robberies, one of them successful, targeting mail carriers on Long Island.
Aaron Nelson, of Deer Park, was taken into custody Thursday evening, May 30, following an investigation by Suffolk County Police detectives.
It came months after a second suspect, Chrisnell Maitre, of Deer Park, was arrested Thursday, Feb. 29.
Investigators said Nelson and Maitre have attempted to rob several US Postal Service workers of their mailbox keys around Suffolk County since October 2023.

Police are investigating a fatal overnight Long Island crash.
It happened around 3:45 a.m. Friday, May 31, in Smithtown, on East Main Street, approximately 100 feet west of Terry Road.
Suffolk County PD detectives say they determined Cory Fitzpatrick, age 29, of Farmingville, was traveling eastbound on a 1999 Harley-Davidson when he lost control of the motorcycle.
According to police, the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a curb, a sign, and a fire hydrant before crashing into a fence.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection to nearly a dozen Long Island business burglaries and an attempted burglary.
Following an investigation by Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives, Frank Costa, age 54, of Port Jefferson, and Jon Pucci, age 29, of Middle Island, were apprehended in Centereach for allegedly committing the following burglaries during which cash and cigarettes were stolen:

Rite Aid Announces 14 Long Island Stores Slated For Closure After Declaring Bankruptcy
Rite Aid has announced specific store closures just days after the struggling pharmacy chain filed for bankruptcy.
Of the 154 closures nationwide announced on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 20 are in New York, 14 of which are on Long Island.
Rite Aid currently has 2,100 stores and about 45,000 employees.

A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash overnight on a busy Long Island roadway.
It happened around 8 p.m. Monday, July 24 in Smithtown.
The victim, a 29-year-old, was operating a motorized scooter on Route 25A, south of the area of Willow Ridge Drive, when he lost control of the scooter, which struck the right curb, causing him to fall off the scooter and strike his head on the pavement, Suffolk County Police said.

Police have arrested a wanted man accused of taking pictures of children and employees at a Long Island gymnastics center without their permission.
Robert Colyvas, age 29, was arrested at his Kings Park home on Tuesday night, May 16, Suffolk County Police said.
According to investigators, Colyvas walked into the Gold Medal Gymnastics Center, located in Smithtown on West Main Street, on April 29 and began photographing kids and staff without their consent.
