Ostrich, Prairie Dogs Among 100 Animals Confiscated From Hoarder's North Bellmore Home: Police
A Long Island man is facing dozens of violations after authorities confiscated enough exotic animals to rival Doctor Dolittle.
Federal, state, and local investigators descended on the man’s North Bellmore home on Tuesday night, Jan. 23, following a complaint from Humane Long Island.
The search, led by the Nassau County SPCA, turned up 100 hoarded animals inside his basement and backyard, according to the organization.
Among them were a South American ostrich, an endangered Tiger Salamander, a Giant African snail, an opossum, and two prairie dogs.

A man has been apprehended for leaving the scene after driving his delivery truck into a school bus and seven other cars, injuring multiple adults and children, police said.
On Thursday, May 25 at approximately 6:45 a.m., a delivery truck driver (operated by 56-year-old Maxwell Taylor), collided with multiple vehicles in East Meadow and North Bellmore, including a school bus, according to the Nassau County police.

A family-run Greek restaurant that opened on Long Island in late spring is making a big impression on customers.
Souvlaki Street officially opened in North Bellmore on Sunday, June 5, owner Alexandros Katehis said.
Katehis, a resident of Bethpage, said he has worked in the restaurant industry for 35 years, previously operating restaurants in Greece and Brooklyn.
"All my life I've worked in restaurants," he said.

Hicksville Man Nabbed For String Of Burglaries, Police Say
A man has been arrested for allegedly committing at least seven burglaries on Long Island.
Scott Gilmor, age 45, of Hicksville, was arrested by Nassau County Police in Hempstead on Tuesday, Aug. 23.
According to detectives, a thorough investigation determined that Gilmor was responsible for multiple burglaries that occurred in Nassau County on the following dates:
