Man, 42, Nabbed In Burglaries Of Monsey Synagogues, Police Say
A man has been charged in connection with the burglaries of three Hudson Valley synagogues.
Joel Jungries, age 42, of New York City, was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 23 in connection with the burglaries that took place over two weekends earlier this month in Monsey.
According to Lt. Chris Franklin of the Ramapo Police, Jungries illegally entered and stole property from the synagogues, all located on Monsey Boulevard and Suzanne Drive.
On Saturday, Jan. 20, Ramapo Police received reports that the two synagogues on Monsey Boulevard had been hit again, Franklin said.

A New York man has been charged with five separate alleged burglaries that occurred in the Hudson Valley over the past three months.
Maurice Deutsch, age 40, of Brooklyn, was arrested by the Ramapo Police on Friday, Nov. 10, for the burglaries that took place in Rockland County in the village of New Hempstead and the Monsey area.
According to Det. Lt. Christopher Franklin, of the Ramapo Police, on three occasions, Deutsch had entered a building on the grounds of a cemetery in New Hempstead and removed proceeds from a charity box.

Van With 10 Occupants Rolls Down Embankment Off Rt. 287, Seriously Injuring Driver, Passenger
A van with 10 occupants rolled down an embankment Tuesday, August 15, seriously injuring the driver and one of the passengers, authorities said.
The crash occurred by the off-ramp from the Hamburg Turnpike to Rt. 287 North near Walmart in Riverdale around 3 a.m., according to the Riverdale Fire Department.
The van was located about 30 feet down an embankment in a wooded area, where eight of its 10 occupants had self-extricated, the squad said.

Fatal Fire: 2 Escape Jail After Blaze Claiming Lives Of Spring Valley Valley Firefighter, Man
Two rabbis who pleaded guilty to a fatal fire at an adult home in the Hudson Valley have escaped jail time through a plea deal.
Rockland County residents Nathaniel Sommer, age 72, of Monsey, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, June 20 to two counts of second-degree manslaughter and is expected to be sentenced to five years probation, said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh.
His son, Aaron Sommer, age 29, also of Monsey, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree reckless endangerment, which carries a sentence of three years probation, Walsh added.

Fatal Hit-Run Crash: 18-Year-Old Charged For Incident Involving Monsey Woman, Age 52
An 18-year-old Hudson Valley resident has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash last year that left another woman dead.
The Rockland County teen, from Monsey, was charged on Monday, April 3, said Lt. Michael Gannon, with the Ramapo Police.
Her name was not released due to her age at the time of the incident, making her eligible for youthful offender status, Gannon said.
The crash took place in Rockland County around 12:45 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 28, on West Carlton Road in Ramapo, Gannon said.

A group of pediatric dentists in New Jersey and New York who were outed by a former worker for conducting medically unnecessary root canals on children agreed to pay more than $750,000 to settle charges against them, authorities in both states announced.
Formerly known as HQRC Management Services LLC, the targeted practice was run by dentist Barry L. Jacobson, most recently of Alpine, NJ, they said.

Duo Charged With Kidnapping, Robbery In Incident At Garnerville Motel
Two Hudson Valley men were indicted on charges stemming from a kidnapping and robbery at a motel in the region.
Rockland County residents Jonathan Abikzer, age 30, of Monsey, and Michael Galkovich, age 46, of New City, were charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree kidnapping in the incident that happened in Garnerville earlier this month, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh announced on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

The search continued for a young Rockland teen who went missing late last month.
Bryanah Etienne, a 14-year-old from Monsey, is about 5-foot-3 and roughly 140 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair, said police in Spring Valley, which is near the New Jersey border.
The region has quick access to Route 287 and the Garden State Parkway -- both of which head into the Garden State.

Dozens Of Boys From Rockland, Elsewhere Hospitalized With Food Poisoning After Ukraine Trip
More than two dozen boys were reportedly taken to hospitals in Rockland County, the Catskills, and Brooklyn after they apparently suffered food poisoning while returning from a trip to Ukraine.
The boys, all in their upper teens, were nauseous, vomiting and feverish, among other reactions, after landing at an unidentified New York City airport, responders said.
They apparently had been eating tuna sandwiches before their flight and began feeling ill during the journey, according to unconfirmed reports.
