Albany, Rensselaer County School Districts Awarded Millions For Electric Buses
A half dozen school districts in the region will receive over $12 million in federal funding to pay for electric school buses.
Six districts, located in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Montgomery, and Warren counties, were awarded nearly $12,080,000 in federal rebate funding through the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new Clean School Bus Program.
The program is meant to help underserved districts transition to low or no emission buses without overburdening local taxpayers, Sen. Chuck Schumer’s office said.

Registered Sex Offender Rapes Child In Saratoga Springs, Police Say
A registered sex offender is facing fresh charges after allegedly raping a child in the region, police said.
Saratoga Springs Police arrested Terrance Crawford, age 38, on Monday, Feb. 19, after they were contacted by a relative of the alleged victim.
The family member told investigators they had discovered incriminating social media conversations between Crawford and the child, police said.
Following an investigation, Crawford was arrested without incident and charged with rape and criminal sex act, both felonies.

Drunk Driver Busted With LSD During Traffic Stop In Capital Region, Police Say
A 36-year-old man is facing driving while intoxicated charges after allegedly being caught drunk behind the wheel with illegal drugs in the car, police said.
The upstate New York incident happened Thursday evening, Aug. 31, in Warren County, on Route 9 in Lake George, according to state police.
Connecticut resident Andrew Tustian, of Stratford, was stopped for multiple vehicle and traffic law violations before troopers determined he was intoxicated, police said.

Woman Steals Money From Person She Worked For In Capital Region, Police Say
A woman was arrested for larceny after she allegedly stole more than $2,800 from a person she worked for in the Capital Region as a home health aide.
The incident took place in Warren County on Monday, April 24 in Chestertown.
State Police arrested Warren County resident Erica Hitchcock-Smith, 40, of the town of Chester, for grand larceny and petit larceny following an investigation into a February theft, said Trooper Stephanie O’Neil.

Couple Charged With Animal Neglect In Chester
A couple has been charged with animal neglect for allegedly torturing and injuring animals they kept in the Hudson Valley.
The couple, identified as Neil D. Duell, age 66, and Susan L. Duell, age 56, are property owners in Orange County in the town of Chester, were arrested Wednesday, March 29, according to the New York State Police.
The two reside in Warren County in the town of Horicon.
Police did not identify the type of animal involved in the case.

Doctor From Watervliet Sentenced for Filing False Tax Returns, Ordered To Pay $245,212
A New York doctor will avoid prison after admitting that he filed false tax returns.
Albany County resident Ehab Kodsi, age 56, of Watervliet, was sentenced to pay $245,212 in restitution and pay an additional $25,000 fine Thursday, Nov. 3, in federal court in Albany.
The sentence followed Kodsi’s guilty plea to filing a false tax return and admission that he deliberately underreported revenue from both his pain management company in Queensbury, in Warren County, and his real estate company between 2015 and 2018.

When it comes to the healthiest locales in the United States, several counties in New York are faring quite well, according to a new ranking by U.S. News & World Report.

Man On Electric Bicycle Killed In Crash In Capital District
A man has died after he was struck by a car while riding an electric bicycle in the Capital District.
The crash happened Monday, May 9, in Warren County, near the Pine View Cemetery in Queensbury, according to New York State Police.
Investigators said Kelly Burke, age 53, of Granville in Washington County, was driving the bike when he crossed State Route 254 and was struck by a Chevrolet Impala.
Burke was taken to Glens Falls Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The driver of the Impala, a 73-year-old Washington County man, was not injured.
