A strong contingent of athletes and para athletes from Maryland and Virginia are headed to the Paris Olympics.
A total of 24 athletes from Maryland and 15 from Virginia have all qualified for the Olympics and are ready to make their run at the gold when events kick off Friday, July 26.
Athletes from Maryland set to sport the Red, White, and Blue during the Olympics:

Danielle Collins fought hard. But Iga Swiatek fought harder.
Collins, 30, a UVA grad, won the second set of the Australian Open match against the Polish powerhouse, who starred in Season 1 of Netflix's "Break Point," and whom she beat at the AO in 2022.

Maryland native Jake Funk is coming home — and he's bringing his fiance, Hannah Ann Sluss.
Funk, 25, was a standout member of the Damascus High School in Montgomery County, scoring a record seven touchdowns in 2017.
The running back led the team to a state championship, and went on to play five seasons for the Terps.
After playing for the Rams, Saints, Colts, and Dolphins, Funk is returning home to play for the Ravens' practice squad.

Kalil ElMedkhar might be grieving the loss of his mom to cancer, but he's got a whole team of support.
The 23-year-old Loudoun United FC midfielder, who was raised in the Philadelphia suburbs, lost his mom, 65-year-old Helena Schroyer, after a cancer battle on June 27, as reported by Delaware Online.
In addition to a GoFundMe campaign for the American Cancer Society, launched in Helena's memory by supporters of Loudoun United, proceeds from bids on the team's match against Sacramento Republic on Aug. 19 will go toward fighting cancer.
