2 Rock Hill Men Nabbed Cutting Copper Pipes Off Heating Unit, Police Say
Two men from the region were charged with felony burglary after allegedly being caught inside a home cutting copper pipes off of a heating system.
The incident occurred in Sullivan County around 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 1 in the town of Thompson at 409 Rock Hill Drive.
According to Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle and found the two men identified as Damien Somolinos, age 34, and Richard Galeano, Jr, age 51, both of Rock Hill, inside a residence, cutting copper pipes off of the heating system.

Two men from the region are in serious condition after being struck by a car while standing on the side of a roadway in the region.
The crash took place in Sullivan County around 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 29 on Route 17 in the town of Thompson.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Sienna was disabled on the right shoulder of the roadway, said Trooper Steven Nevel.

A man from the region was arrested after allegedly being caught in the basement of a housing complex sawing off copper pipes.
Sullivan County resident Joshua Whidbee, age 44, of Monticello, was nabbed on Monday, Dec. 13, after the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a burglary.
According to Undersheriff Eric Chaboty, of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the Sunny Forest Bungalow Colony on Liberty Road in the town of Thompson.

Teen Nabbed After Stealing Pistols, Rifles In Sullivan County, Police Say
A teen was charged with a felony after stealing five firearms and a rare coin collection while staying with family friends in the area, said state police.
According to police, 19-year-old Sullivan County resident Theo Gilbert, of Rock Hill, was found in possession of the following:
a stolen Walther PP32 automatic pistol,
a .380 Sig Sauer,
a Marlin 99 lever-action long gun,
a Remington long fun with a scope,
and a Ruger .22 semi-automatic rifle.

Two Teens Struck, Killed By Car Driven By Retired Judge, NY State Police Say
A pair of teenagers have died after being fatally struck by an 86-year-old former judge, New York State Police investigators in the Hudson Valley announced.
Justin Finkel, 14, and Devin Zeninger, 16, residents of the hamlet of Rock Hill in Sullivan County, have been identified as the victims who were struck at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, while crossing Glen Wild Road in the town of Thompson. A third teen also suffered minor injuries, though it is not believed that he was struck by the car.

On Friday, April 19, State Police troopers in Roscoe arrested Benjamin Newbury, 23 of East Windsor, NJ, for DWI. He was traveling on 17B in Thompson when he was observed to make an illegal U-turn before entering a sobriety checkpoint. Man, 33, Killed In Route 17 Two-Car Crash
A 33-year-old man was killed during a two-vehicle crash on Route 17 on Tuesday evening.
The crash occurred around 10:15 p.m. in the town of Thompson, said New York State Trooper Steve Nevel.
An investigation into the crash indicates that a 2015 Toyota driven by Patrick Collins, 50, of Stroudsburg, Pa., was traveling east on Route 17 when the vehicle struck a 2002 Honda traveling west, Nevel said.
The driver of the Honda, Luiz Diaz, of Monticello, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Cynthia Acevedo, 27, also of Monticello, was flown to Westchester Medical Center with injuries. …
