'Now He Will Pay': Man Who Murdered Pregnant Wife In Farmingdale Sentenced
A Long Island man who strangled and killed his estranged wife – who was pregnant with his child at the time she died – will spend over two decades behind bars, police said.
Michael Owens, age 30 of St. James, received his 25 years to life sentence for the murder of Kelly Owens on Thursday, Jan. 11, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.

Four Charged With DWI During Sobriety Checkpoint At Busy Port Jefferson Intersection
Four people were charged during an overnight sobriety checkpoint overnight at a busy Long Island intersection.
It was conducted in Port Jefferson Station at the corner of Route 112 at Hallock Avenue from around 11:10 p.m. Friday, July 1 until just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2.
Police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway Patrol Bureau conducted the joint operation.

Long Island Man Indicted For String Of Burglaries, ATM Theft, DA Says
A Long Island man faces up to 15 in prison for a string of alleged commercial burglaries in November 2020.
Kieran Fichtner, age 27, of St. James, was arraigned last week on charges associated with the burglaries, as well as for the alleged theft of an ATM machine along with an accomplice, an accomplice, Michael Parise, 46, of Stony Brook, said Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy D. Sini.
“These two individuals are alleged serial burglars who were targeting businesses and driving crime in our community,” Sini said.

A Mattituck man has pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging him with allegedly hitting and killing a popular Kings Park teacher and coach who was jogging in St. James while he was driving high.
Smithtown resident Michael McDermott, 37, who taught at Kings Park High School, was jogging in the southbound shoulder of Lake Avenue, north of Oak Street when he was struck by a Nissan at approximately 12:20 p.m. on July 14, police said.
