Shock and sadness spread following the death of 37-year-old Michael Burns, a well-respected youth sports coach and father of two.
According to his obituary, Mike died unexpectedly on a bicycle ride Sunday, March 3.

Phillipsburg is mourning the loss of a lifelong resident and beloved teen.
Alexa Marie Brown, “Alexita,” died Thursday, August 24 at age 16.
Born in Phillipsburg, Alexa was known for her wide range of hobbies, including cheerleading, softball, and basketball, in which she became “a competitor on and off the court” with the help of her father, her obituary says. She played on several basketball teams, including the Steele Hill Bulldogs, Steele Hill Warriors and Team Jenkins.

Central Jersey Native, Beloved Dad Dies Suddenly, 38
Central Jersey native and beloved father Douglas Maurice Verschelde died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 19. He was 38.
Verschelde grew up in Medford before moving to Point Pleasant, where he lived at the time of his death, his obituary says.
A member of Five Alive Bassmasters, Verschelde loved fishing and working on his boat.
Verschelde was also an avid softball player and Scudz Sports teammate, his memorial says.
Above all, Verschelde is remembered for embracing his role as a loving father to his young daughter, Angelina LaChappelle, who was his “greatest joy in life.”

Beloved mom, longtime wife and Northampton High School graduate Nicole L. McLoughlin died at Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna on June 6 at the age of 36.
Born in Bethlehem, McLoughlin played softball and was a member of the Big-N-Band Front Flags at Northampton High School, where she graduated in 2002, her obituary says.

Danbury Firefighter Kenneth Flynn Jr. 'Coach Grandpa' Dies
DANBURTY, Conn. -- Former Danbury firefighter Kenneth P. Flynn died on Jan. 17.
Affectionately known as “Coach Grandpa,” he was a lifelong Danbury resident.
Ken was a dedicated employee of Danbury Hospital for 39 years and a volunteer firefighter at Miry Brook Fire Department. He loved playing softball and enjoyed time coaching, especially his grandchildren’s baseball teams.
He is predeceased by his father, Kenneth P. Flynn, Sr., and his brother, Richard Flynn.

Tanya Alfonso died on Sunday, Jan. 7 with her family by her side. She was 43.Tanya was a North Rockland High School graduate and longtime resident of Haverstraw where she was born and raised.
Tanya spent many years playing softball in the various North Rockland leagues and she also coached Little League.
Tanya is survived by her mother Esperanza Rivera and her six siblings: Elizabeth, Jose, Quetcy, Frieda, Anita and Kelvin. She is predeceased by her father Jose "Nacho" Alfonso, who died Oct. 13, 2017.
