Drunk 22-Year-Old Hits, Kills Man Walking On Lawrence Roadway, Police Say
A 22-year-old woman is facing vehicular manslaughter charges after allegedly hitting and killing a pedestrian on Long Island while intoxicated.
The crash happened at around 3:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, in Lawrence, on Rockaway Turnpike near Nassau Expressway.
Dei Aisha Wynter, of Central Islip, was driving a Tesla southbound on Rockaway Turnpike when she struck the victim was he walked westbound in front of a Costco, according to Nassau County Police.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police Medic. Authorities have not released his name, age, or hometown.

Teen Kidnaps, Assaults Victim Using Pipe In Lawrence, Police Say
A teenager was arrested on Long Island after he kidnapped, threatened, and assaulted a woman, police report.
The victim, who remains unidentified at this time, contacted officers at 4 a.m. on Monday, April 17 in Lawrence, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
She told officers that she was kidnapped by 19-year-old Christian Leiva-Aguilar of Inwood.
Further investigation revealed that the teen had picked up the victim earlier in the morning, but that they had gotten into an argument.

Prison Guard From LI Accused Of Accepting $10K In Bribes, Having Romantic Relations With Inmate
A Rikers Island prison guard from Long Island has been charged in a larger bribery conspiracy case that includes taking bribes.
Krystle Burrell, age 35, of Lawrence, was one of six people charged on Tuesday, April 6, with taking bribes to smuggle cell phones and other items to prisoners who are allegedly Bloods gang members, said the US Attorney's Office.
Burrell is accused of accepting bribes in the amount of $9,780 in exchange for smuggling at least two cell phones to her inmate "lover" Terrae Hinds in the summer of 2021, the office said.

Trio Accused Stealing More Than $10K In Merchandise From Nassau County Stores
Three people are facing charges after police said they stole more than $10,000 worth of merchandise from Long Island stores.
Rodney Galloway, age 53, of Westbury, Michele Brown, age 24, of Baldwin, and Willie White, age 55, of Hempstead, were arrested at 1:45 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Investigators saw a gray 2002 Nissan Maxima identified as the suspect vehicle traveling east on Fulton Street at Cathedral Ave. in Hempstead, NCPD said.
Police pulled the Nissan over and arrested the three defendants without incident, police said.

20-Year-Old Violently Fights Officers After Long Island Traffic Stop, Police Say
A man who was being arrested for allegedly committing numerous traffic infractions while driving a 2010 Mercedes Benz on Long Island violently fought officers, injuring one.
Dwayne Gordon, age 20, of Brooklyn, was arrested around 12:50 a.m., Friday, July 30, after being stopped in Lawrence for making numerous traffic infractions on the Rockaway Turnpike, said the Nassau County Police.
During an investigation after the stop, it was determined Gordon had used fraudulent Texas plates on the vehicle, police said.

A Long Island man has been arrested for DWI Leandra's Law after allegedly hitting another vehicle and leaving the scene with children in his vehicle.
Julio Cesar Portillo, age 50, of Inwood, was arrested around 10:40 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, after Nassau County Police responded to the area of 679 Rockaway Turnpike in Lawrence for a crash in which the vehicle left the scene, said the Nassau County Police.
According to police, while investigating the crash, they located a red Ford pickup truck at the intersection of Wheelock Avenue and West Broadway in Inwood.

Covid-19: Long Island Sees Slight Uptick In Cases, Here's Breakdown By Towns
Long Island has seen a slight uptick in positive COVID-19 cases though statewide numbers continue trending in the right direction.
There have now been 44,924 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nassau, and 45,006 in Suffolk as each county saw less than 100 new cases in the latest numbers provided by the state Department of Health.
There have been 2,198 COVID-19 fatalities in Nassau and 2,005 in Suffolk.
On Long Island, the positive infection rate over the past three days:
Monday, Aug. 31: 1.0 percent;
Tuesday, Sept. 1: 0.8 percent;

Teen Assaults Worker With Bat During Robbery At Long Island Market, Police Say
A teenager struck a store employee with a bat during a robbery at a Long Island food market, police say.
It happened on Friday, Aug. 28 at 4:30 p.m. in Lawrence.
Miguel Torres, 18, of Far Rockaway, while inside Seasons Express on 50 Doughty Boulevard, removed a six pack of beer from the shelves and exited the store without attempting to pay for the merchandise, Nassau County Police said.

Fair Lawn PD: Four From Brooklyn, One From Long Island Nabbed With Car Stolen From Jersey City
Fair Lawn police nabbed five out-of-towners with a car stolen out of Jersey City, authorities said.
Police from surrounding towns assisted in the search for the group, who were tracked by GPS in the stolen 2019 Mercedes-Benz to Campbell Road near River Road, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.
Four of them were removed from the stolen vehicle, said Metzler, who identified them as:
