Mahwah Officer Nabs Trio With Loaded Gun, Cocaine, More On Route 17: Police
Three Cuban nationals from out of the area were busted by a Mahwah police officer who stopped their tractor on Route 17 and found a loaded gun, cocaine and more, authorities said.
Officer Nicole DiPasquale stopped the Peterbilt truck for multiple motor vehicle violations on the southbound highway shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday, April 27, Lt. Michael Blondin said.
The occupants gave conflicting accounts of where they were coming from and headed to, leading to a search request that was granted by the driver, Karel Reza-Perez, a 39-year-old Louisville, KY, resident, the lieutenant said.

Leslie Graf, a lifelong New Jersey resident and longtime first responder, died on Tuesday, March 5 at the age of 77, according to her obituary.
Born in Kearny in 1947, Graf lived in Nutley before moving to Wayne, her obituary reads. She met her husband Bill while attending Wayne Valley High School and they raised their three daughters in Bloomingdale, according to her obituary.

Hoboken police stopped a one-man crime wave following five armed robberies over six weeks, including two the same day.
Matthew Trontz, a 31-year-old ex-con from Jersey City, was arrested almost immediately after he held up Thomas’ Ice Cream Café on Jefferson Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets on Tuesday, Feb. 27, city police said.

A search is underway for a Kearny resident missing since December, authorities said.
Jordan Noy has been missing since he left the KARE Juvenile Residential Facility on the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 13, authorities said.
Noy is 5'4" and weighs 131 lbs., Kearny police said. He was last seen at 10:07 p.m., wearing a blue and white varsity jacket, a black hooded sweatshirt, black shoes, a black backpack and glasses, police said. He has brown hair and brown eyes, police said.

Man Struck Two Pedestrians In Kearny, Fled Scene: Prosecutors
A 24-year-old Elizabeth resident was charged on Thursday, Sept. 21, with striking two pedestrians in Kearny before fleeing the scene back in February, prosecutors said.
On Sunday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m., Ivo DaSilva-Oliveira struck two women, ages 55 and 77, with his vehicle at the intersection of Belgrove Drive and Wilkinson Terrace, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. DaSilva-Oliveira then left the scene, Suarez said. Both women were transported to University Hospital for treatment, Suarez said.

MSU Student Breanna Pifano, 20, Dies Weeks After Suffering Cardiac Event
Breanna Pifano, a 20-year-old student at Montclair State University, died on Monday, Sept. 18, after suffering a cardiac event earlier this month, according to her obituary.
Breanna was born on Dec. 18, 2002 and was in her third year at MSU studying biology, with aspirations of becoming an optometrist.
A fundraiser was set up to assist the family with medical and funeral expenses. As of Friday, Sept. 22, more than $40,590 has been raised.
