It was a busy February for the Newark police.
Ten people were arrested on outstanding warrants in the city, ranging from aggravated assault to being in possession of a handgun, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.
Brenda Velasquez, a 46-year-old Kearney resident, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 7 after a warrant was issued for her arrest on charges of aggravated assault and weapon possession following an altercation with a woman in January, Fragé said.

A tense moment during a late-night traffic stop on Route 17 in Mahwah ended in the arrest of an out-of-state driver who had a loaded gun and two high-capacity magazines in the console of his minivan, authorities said.

Out-Of-State Duo Jailed After Mahwah PD Traffic Stop Produces Loaded Gun, Magazines, More
An out-of-state father and son were jailed after a Mahwah police officer found a loaded gun and a trio of illegal magazines during a traffic stop.
Anthony S. Burdette, 53, and Zachary L. Burdette, 21, of Anderson, SC, remained held in the Bergen County Jail on Tuesday, Oct. 4, four days after their arrests, records show.
Officer Joseph Simeone spotted one of the magazines and ammunition in plain view during last Friday's stop, according to documents on file in Superior Court in Hackensack.
The Burdettes told him they had a loaded gun in the glove compartment, records show.

A traffic stop led to the arrest of two out-of-state men for alleged possession of a handgun and loaded magazine.
Israel Davis, age 25, and Malick Davis, age 22, both of Hemingway, South Carolina, were arrested by New York State Police around 5:25 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 11 during a traffic stop in Orange County on I-87 in the town of Cornwall, said Trooper Tara McCormick.

Stamford Duo Nabbed For Drugs In Fairfield Warrant Search
Two area men were busted with drugs during a warrant search by Fairfield County police.
Jaydeh Brayboy, 19, and Jerry Salaahudiyn, 36, both of Stamford, were arrested on Sunday, Dec. 20 by members of the Stamford Police Narc Unit during a warrant search, said Capt. Richard Conklin.
According to Conklin, Narc Unit members had been investigating the two men for the sale of drugs for quite some time before the warrant was served.
Salaahudiyn was busted with the alleged sale of a crack to an undercover officer. When busted, he had more than $,000 in cash, Conklin said.
