Days after a beloved Long Island firefighter and aspiring EMT was killed in a hit-and-run crash, police have a suspect in custody.
Christopher Hlavaty, age 22, of East Patchogue, died Monday night, June 10, after his motorcycle was struck by a car near Main Street and Rider Avenue in Patchogue, according to Suffolk County Police.
Hlavaty was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 22-year-old Long Island man who pleaded guilty to trafficking “ghost guns,” ammunition, and more to alleged gang members will now spend years behind bars, officials announced.
On Monday, Sept. 25, Jeramya Sloan, also known as “JuJu,” was sentenced to 46 months in prison for selling weapons across Suffolk County, according to the Eastern District of New York U.S. Attorney's Office.
Sloan, who is from Selden and East Patchogue, admitted to selling the guns from December 2019 through January 2021 to people he thought were Bloods gang members.

A family argument escalated to a deadly shooting outside a Long Island home that left a 23-year-old man dead.
Brent Henry, age 59, of Riverhead, was indicted on murder charges in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, Aug. 31, in the death of Ines Reyes.
According to prosecutors, the two men got into an altercation on Friday, Aug. 18, inside a Bellport home that Reyes shared with his girlfriend, Henry’s niece. It quickly escalated into a fist fight.
Reyes and his girlfriend then left the home and went to a relative’s house in East Patchogue, located on Amsterdam Avenue.

A suspect is now in custody after the fatal shooting of a young woman on Long Island.
The shooting happened around 1:25 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 in Coram.
Suffolk County Police responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired in the rear parking lot of 24 Middle Country Road.
When officers arrived, they located the woman suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

30-Year-Old Woman Killed In Suspected DWI Farmingville Crash
A 30-year-old woman has died following an apparent drunk driving crash on Long Island.
Suffolk County Police were called at around 2:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, with reports of a car crash in Farmingville, near Blue Point Road and Clearview Avenue.
Investigators determined that Anthony Milano, age 31, of Farmingville, had been driving westbound on Clearview Avenue when he struck a parked van before hitting a tree.
The van was unoccupied at the time, police said.

Four people have been nabbed in a major million-dollar retail theft ring on Long Island.
Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney announced on Tuesday, Aug. 9, that the suspects would steal items from big box stores and then use Ulloa’s Brentwood pawn shop as a front.
The suspects would allegedly store the products at a warehouse before selling them online, the DA's Office said.
